Snow Days
Lesson credits will automatically be credited to the next month's tuition when Quakertown Community School District is closed or cancels after-school activities on a lesson day. If the weather and roads improve throughout the day, contact the studio, and you may still receive a lesson on that day. However, don't feel that you have to come, if you don't feel comfortable. Your family's safety is more important than a music lesson!
Practice
At home practice is expected for success on any musical instrument. The key to practice, is frequent repetition. The general rule of thumb, is each piece of music, or item being practiced should be repeated at least 5 times every practice session to help to train the brain and muscles to learn how to play successfully. Practice expected of students is:
-
Beginners (Age 8-Adult) - 30-45 minutes per day, 5 days per week
-
Intermediate - 45-60 minutes per day, 5 days per week
-
Advanced - 60+ minutes per day, 5 days per week
To encourage students to practice, an instrument stand is highly recommended, so that valuable time is not spent on continual unpacking and packing of instruments. Many other practice strategies may be suggested during lessons.
Failure to practice on a regular basis may result in removal from the lesson schedule.
Parents are encouraged to be involved in your child’s learning and practice. Be a cheerleader and a reminder. Children love to perform, however practice is that necessary evil to a successful performance. Children generally don't enjoy doing homework, but as parents we recognize that homework gives that necessary practice needed to proficiency. The need to remind students regularly to practice is to be expected in 95% of students. Setting a regular practice time in your child’s daily schedule helps to reduce practice issues and arguments. Also, provide opportunities for students to perform for friends and family! This is a great practice in the art of performing, plus kids get more comfortable playing in performance situations.
Recitals / Performances / Field Trips
Occasionally, recital & performance opportunities come up. While students are not required to perform in these opportunities, it is highly encouraged. Some recitals may incur a small fee, depending on the location.
The studio attempts to run at least one field trip per year to a musical performance. Students, family members, and friends are encouraged to attend. Previous field trips have traveled to see concerts in Philadelphia, Reading, Allentown, Lancaster, and State College.
